Prof. James Galloway to Participate in “Our Ocean” Conference
EVSC Professor James Galloway will be one of the scenesetters for a session on “Stemming the Tide of Ocean Pollution” at the “Our Ocean” conference on Friday Sept. 16, 2016 in Washington D.C.
Other speakers at the conference include President Barak Obama, Secretary of State John Kerry and a host of leaders and senior diplomats from other countries.

Res. Prof. Peter Berg Elected ASLO Fellow
Research Professor Peter Berg was elected to the 2016 class of the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO) Fellows. The ASLO Fellows program honors individuals who have given tirelessly of their time and talents to support ASLO’s mission to advance the sciences of limnology and oceanography. He will be honored during the upcoming ASLO 2017 Aquatic Sciences Meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Prof. Macko on BBC-International series The Food Chain
Professor Stephen Macko was interviewed by the BBC for the The Food Chain series “Of Maize and Men: The Rise” about his work using carbon isotopes to quantify the high influence of corn on human nutrition. The series covers how and why corn has become a dominant part of our food supply. Listen to the interview here.

Department graduate students host EnviroDay 2017
Environmental Sciences graduate students, led by Alice Besterman and Erin Swails, hosted the 2017 EnviroDay symposium on February 24, 2017. The symposium theme was “Global Change and Public Health” and featured 16 talks and 12 posters from undergraduate and graduate students from several UVA departments. The keynote seminar “Of Mice and Men: Emerging Infectious Disease in a Warmer, More Fragmented World” was delivered by Dr. Richard Ostfeld from the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies.
