Firebaugh_Profile_PixAriel earned a B.S. in Biology from Roanoke College, a small liberal arts institution outside Roanoke, VA, in 2012. Her undergraduate research described cabbage white butterfly development on garlic mustard, and invasive forest understory plant. After graduation, Ariel evaluated insect biological control agents at the Center for Agricultural Bioscience International in Switzerland and built seed traps at the Savannah River Site Corridor Project in South Carolina. She joined the research community at Blandy Experimental Farm as a doctoral candidate in 2013. Her dissertation research explores how artificial light pollution affects firefly activities. Other research interests include invasion ecology and insect demography, and her approach to research combines field work and spatial analysis. Website:
