Combining Footprint Indicators for Food Products

Grass footprintProfessors Jim Galloway, Michael Pace, and Paolo D’Odorico along with graduate students Laura Cattell Noll, Kyle Davis, Kyle Emery, and Jessica Gephart, former graduate student Allison Leach, and research associate Elizabeth Castner are working together to combine carbon, nitrogen, and water footprint indicators. The group has developed a labelling scheme that combines carbon, nitrogen, and water footprints to provide consumers with information on multiple dimensions of a product’s environmental impacts in a simple label design. The group is also working to quantify the tradeoffs and synergies among the footprints and project future footprints for different diet and population growth scenarios.
