Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., in partnership with the Rosalind Franklin Society has launched a prestigious annual award to recognize outstanding published peer-reviewed research by women and underrepresented minorities in science in each of the publisher’s peer-reviewed journals.
Graduate students Rong Li and Xinhuiyu Liu have won prestigious graduate fellowships from NASA -- the Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST) fellowship. 62 proposals were selected among the 394 proposals submitted.
Sometimes faculty and staff collaborate on things as well! Professor Jim Galloway and staff member Elizabeth Jackson had a fun time bringing their ‘colleagues’ Fred and Clucky together. We had an ‘egg’cellent time. Credit to CB Allen for the photos.
Environmental Sciences graduate students Clare Rodenberg and Spencer Tassone were selected by the Jefferson Scholars Foundation as 2 out of 21 students to receive Jefferson Fellowships, the premier graduate fellowship offered at the University of Virginia. Recipients of the Jefferson Fellowship are selected based on their potential as scholars, teachers, public servants and business leaders and receive full financial support to attend the University for the fellowship period.
Graduate student, Tara Illgner, was selected for the 2022 Environmental Fellowship Program at the Yale School of Environment where she will work with the MacArthur Foundation's Climate Solutions team focusing on equitable clean energy policies in the U.S. and India. Congratulations Tara!

1) COVES Fellowship: I was selected as a COVES fellow last summer, and assigned to work on Science-Policy with the Virginia Legislature's Joint Commission on Technology and Science (JCOTS).
UVA Environmental Science alumni (undergrad class of 2015) Thomas Sherman, Ph.D., co-founder of CRCL solutions, was recently recognized by Forbes magazine 30 under 30 in the energy sector. Sherman's company focuses on improving renewable energy forecasting using environmental data.
The UVA Department of Environmental Sciences seeks to recruit and support a postdoctoral fellow from any field within the environmental sciences through the Rising Scholars Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, sponsored by the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and the Mellon Foundation. We also encourage applicants whose scientific research informs environmental justice.
