My research involves analysis of biotic responses to abiotic
controls. Specific research projects fall into two main areas. (1)
Analysis of acidification impacts on fish communities in both Virginia
and Norway; these projects include field studies, laboratory toxicity
studies and interpretation of regional-scale effects based on analysis
of large data sets. (2) Analysis of the organization of estuarine fish
communities at the regional scale with respect to abiotic features such
as environmental gradients and inlet dynamics. My work on fishes thus
spans stress physiology to biogeography.
