Health Insurance
All UVA students are required show proof of health insurance coverage. But not to worry: as a graduate student, you may be eligible for a health insurance subsidy! UVA will pay for the Chickering basic health plan ($1,976) for students who earn at least $5,000 in wages during the course of the academic year. The subsidy is non-transferable and non-refundable. As soon as eligibility is determined (which means as soon as the student’s financial aid is set up in the dept), students should receive an email indicating their eligibility for the subsidy. This notice will also include instructions how and when you may register for the Chickering plan, either online at Chickering.com, or through the mail. Both subsidy and non-subsidy students may enroll for the Chickering plan, and dependents are also eligible, although all associated costs for dependents will be paid by the enrollee.
